Meet Dr. Stephen J. Sowa
Dr. Stephen Sowa graduated from Boston College in 1976 with a Bachelor of Science in biology. He attended Tufts University School of Dental Medicine, from which he graduated in 1979 with his Doctorate of Dental Medicine.
Dr. Sowa was born into a dental family. His father, Dr. Joseph Sowa, was a dentist in Pawtucket and Lincoln for nearly 50 years. After practicing in the Boston area for seven years, Dr. Stephen Sowa returned to Rhode Island and joined his father to form Lincoln Dental Associates in 1987.
Dr. Sowa can sum up his philosophy of dental practice with one simple phrase: “We don’t just treat teeth, we treat people!” He knows that every patient is different and has things going on in his or her life that influence every decision, including how to handle dental treatment. He tries to get to know his patients so he can tailor their treatment with sensible plans that meet their individual needs and desires. He has applied his expertise and technical skills to achieve durable and satisfying results for thousands of patients.
A dentist with a grasp of the most innovative and minimally invasive procedures, Dr. Sowa is dedicated to lifelong learning through continuing education. In addition to being a longtime member of the American Dental Association and Rhode Island Dental Association, Dr. Sowa is a member of the Chicago Dental Society, and travels there annually for their educational meeting.
Dr. Sowa grew up in Lincoln and has lived here most of his life. He and his wife Marta, a local pediatrician, have two adult children: Gregory, an editor, and Lauren, an ENT physician, as well as two Cavalier King Charles spaniels, Zoe and Millie. When he’s not in the office, he enjoys spending time with friends and family, and especially likes skiing, golfing, doing crosswords, and cruising the waters of New England aboard his boat, “Baby Tooth.”
